Press Statement
The Prime Minister’s office would like to refer to comments made Baradan Kuppusamy in his article which was published in the Sunday Star, page 8, today under the heading “Tee Keat takes the hard – but right – course”.
The writer, among other things, said MCA president Datuk Seri Ong Tee Keat seem to be fighting a lone battle in the Port Kelang Free Zone issue and was only getting lukewarm support from the Barisan Nasional and the Government in dealing with issue. The writer also asked why the system and its main players who preach reform are not rallying behind Datuk Seri Ong Tee Keat and his crusade.
The claims made by the writer are erroneous and baseless as the Government is committed in the investigations into the PKFZ issue. This was clearly pointed out by Datuk Seri Ong Tee Keat in his comments which were published in the Sunday Star today which quoted him as saying that the Prime Minister Datuk Sri Najib Tun Razak was supportive of Ong efforts into the PKFZ issue.
Datuk Ong Seri Tee Keat had said that the probe would not come this far if the Prime Minister and himself had tolerated or believed in cover-ups.
The relevant authorities including the Public Account Committee are already conducting their investigations into the alleged wrongdoings and it is best we allowed them to complete the investigations. The Government is very much committed towards the principle of transparency and accountability in line with its People First focus.
Suggestion by the writer that the Government is not with Datuk Seri Ong Tee Keat on the PKFZ issue is misleading.
